Community Matters

At BES, we’re enormously proud of our roots and we’re very aware of our responsibility to reinvest our time and resources in support of community initiatives and worthy causes, at both a local and national level.

Our official Corporate Social Responsibility Partner

BES is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals within the local area and has selected Fleetwood Town Community Trust as their official CSR Partner. As one of the largest employers on the Fylde coast and with most of their staff from the area, BES wanted to give something back and make a direct difference to the local community. In 2019, the Community Trust, which is a non-profit, self-funding, registered charity which relies completely on funding and sponsorship, delivered around 30 projects to over 13,000 local people, and thanks to sponsorship from BES, they will now be able to change even more lives.

Charity and fundraising

Brian House

For the last two years, generous staff at BES Utilities have spread the magic of Christmas by collecting hundreds of toys for local children’s hospice, Brian House. The team at BES take part in a Christmas toy appeal, so they can help make a difference to the lives of the children at Brian House over the festive period.

Janet Atkins, Corporate Partnership Manager at Brian House, said:

“Brian House Children’s Hospice is a local charity that supports local families and provides a home from home environment for those who need it. The fabulous donations of gifts and toys from BES help make Christmas very special for our children. We would like to thank each and every one who brought in gifts or donated money to the collection, you have made such a difference.”

Highfurlong

BES has a successful partnership with local special school, Highfurlong, providing the chance for students to boost their knowledge and employability skills through work placements, and sessions at the school delivered by BES employees.

Neill Oldham, Headteacher of Highfurlong, said:

“We have genuinely been blown away with all the opportunities BES are able to offer our pupils. It has been our pleasure to welcome key members of the BES team into the school and to receive their positive input. This collaboration has opened the door to many new opportunities for our learners, including a brand new football team kit for our newly formed team, the use of the amazing facilities at Poolfoot and at Highbury, and most importantly the access to a wide range of work experience activities.”

Mustard Seed Group

Employees at BES enjoyed collecting food bank donations for local charity, The Mustard Seed Group, and were delighted to hand over hundreds of jars, tins, and boxes for those in need. Mustard Seed provides hot meals to those in need, all prepared and served by volunteers, and they rely heavily on donations of food.

Mustard Seed Manager, Hilary Craig, said:

“Receiving support from BES Utilities means a great deal to our charity. We help people in crisis with food, household goods, and bedding, and we never turn anyone away empty handed. We provide hot meals to those in need, and it’s all prepped and served by volunteers. We rely heavily on donations of food and we’re really grateful to BES Utilities for choosing to help us.”

Anchorsholme FC

BES Utilities is delighted to be sponsoring local football club, Anchorsholme FC for the 2020/21 season, as part of their continued commitment to supporting the local community.

Neil Unsworth, Chairman of Anchorsholme FC, said:

“I’m so grateful for BES supporting us this season. It really does go a long way to helping teams like ours, and without businesses like BES we probably wouldn’t exist. Andy, the owner of BES, genuinely shows interest in our club and local football, which is great, and he is always asking how we’re getting on. He knows a lot of our players and has even been over to catch a glimpse of our games in the past.”

Fleetwood Town Community Trust

As part of their ongoing partnership, BES Utilities invested in a brand-new minibus for Fleetwood Town Community Trust, which will provide programme participants access to community groups and events across Wyre and Fylde.

Chief Executive of the Community Trust, Matt Hilton, said:

“We’re extremely grateful for the generous investment BES Utilities has made in our new minibus. Not only will it support our community programmes, in particular our expanding sports provision, it will allow us to increase our offering so even more residents can access groups and events. BES make such a substantial contribution to the local community, and I’m delighted that we can work so closely with them on a range of initiatives that really make a difference those hard to reach groups within our communities.”
