Local students receive an insight into the world of recruitment

Jamie Sykes, Recruitment Manager at BES Utilities, recently visited Blackpool and the Fylde College to give students an insight into the world of recruitment and selection.

He spoke to BTEC Level 3 Business students who are studying the recruitment and selection module, and as well as discussing the recruitment process from start to finish, he provided them with an understanding of what they need to make themselves ready for employment.

The aim of the recruitment and selection module is to introduce students to recruitment and the importance of ensuring that the best people are selected to work in organisations. They study selection and recruitment techniques and will set up and take part in a selection interview.

“It was great to be invited back to Blackpool & The Fylde College to talk to the BTEC students about the highs and lows of recruitment, and also my journey within the industry to get where I am today,” said Jamie, who has worked in the recruitment industry for nine years.

“I hope they found the insight useful, and I look forward to visiting the college again in the near future.”

Caroline Richardson, Lecturer in Leadership, Management and Lifestyle at Blackpool and The Fylde College, said:

“As a college that focuses on employability, whether through courses co-created with industry or supporting students on placements, Blackpool and The Fylde College was very excited and honoured to welcome Jamie to share his experiences shaping one of Fleetwood’s largest businesses.”

BES Utilities is committed to corporate social responsibility, and by offering work placements and providing industry talks, we can help prepare students for the world of work.
