Things you need to know about meter reads

Accurate energy bills are vital when managing business expenditure, especially in these difficult times. Without regular meter reads, all energy companies can do is estimate your bills, which isn’t always precise.

Here is some information about why it is important to submit meter reads and when the best time is to do so.

Providing frequent meter reads ensures that your bill is accurate, and you’re only paying for the energy you have actually used.

If don’t have a smart meter, you should provide us with reads just before your next billing period to ensure that your bill is as accurate as possible. Click here to find out how to read your meter.

If you have a smart meter this will automatically provide us with reads the majority of the time, however, if there are any issues connecting to it, you will find it is much easier to read. There should be a button on the meter which reads ‘select’ or ‘display’ which when pressed will take you through all the relevant information such as date, time and most importantly meter reading.

On the rare occasions where a smart meter is installed and we have been unable to connect to the meter to obtain a reading, we will attempt to contact you in order to obtain a meter reading in the date range stated below.

The best time to do it is just before you receive your bill

To ensure readings are used for your next invoice, please provide these on the closest business day following the 8th of each month. If we do not receive a reading from you, your bill will be estimated using your previous usage, as well as information provided to us from the electricity industry regarding your meter type/size.

We are committed to providing all of our electricity customers with a smart meter, free of charge. To find out if your business is eligible for an installation, simply ring 0344 5678 427 or use the live chat function on our website.
